More or less on the edge of Malham Cove, looking South East.

Notice the vertical cracks formed in the limestone pavement, and the barren uplands.

The Cove is a striking and unusual feature. It is believed to have been formed by a combination of waterfall erosion onto an area softened by underground water. The large volume of water is thought to have come from the melting of glaciers at the end of ice ages. The evidence for this is the dry valley, the lip of the waterfall and the underground stream which emerges at the base of the cliff.
