North East, the shape of a dry river valley can just be made out (Stop 8). Notice the horizontal outcropping, the large amount of visible rock, poor grazing, and lack of any plants except grass. This is typical of landscapes on limestone.

Compare it with Stop 9. Why is this? When rain attacks this very pure limestone, it dissolves almost completely. This means that there are no undissolved materials which normally go to make up soil. Therefore the soil is very thin on the limestone and thicker elsewhere. What does this mean for farming?
