From the same position as Stop 3, showing detail of the cliff.

Note that although slight horizontal banding can be seen, on the whole, the cliff is made out of the same rock (Carboniferous Great Scar Limestone) from top to bottom, with no intervening layers of other material.

The rock is hard and more or less vertical, making it a popular and challenging place for climbers.
