Site : On the north slope of a large river valley.

Main features: rectangular plan, with large corner towers. There are ranges of buildings against all four curtain walls. The entrance has inner and outer portcullises. The entrance tunnel leads into the central courtyard. All doors from there into the towers and buildings are defended by portcullises.
