NameRoseann
LocationSanta Cruz, California
Age54
Diagnosed conditionAtrial Fibrillation (probably lone if not associated with overweight)
Years with condition2
Frequency of episodesWas every 1 to 2 weeks
Duration of episodesminutes or hours. Have been cardioverted on 3 of these occasions
Event preceding first AFDrove 1000 mile trip, exhausted and a bit dehydrated. Happened after I ate a meal and drank coffee (large)
General healthGood...no heart problems, quit smoking 8 years ago. No alcohol, some chocolate (won't quit that!)
Current stateJust had a PVI at Stanford by Dr. Andrea Natale a little over a week ago
TriggersI'm recovering from the procedure. I had a difficult time breathing right after the procedure. They used 3 liters of fluid into the chest cavity while doing the procedure. They immediately took me off Rythmol but I continue to stay on Toprol and have started Coumadin. I am having PVC's here and there but no afib. I'm hopeful this was a success. I won't know for sure for a few months as the scar tissue has to build up.
PreventionsFor now, just Toprol. I've tried many things during the past two years, however. Nothing was working. Rythmol wasn't even working anymore.

I'm interested to know how others are doing after the PVI.
Current medications/side effects Toprol....sometimes drops my blood pressure. I take Ativan at night as I was becoming very anxious anticipating the afib. I need to get off the ativan now.
Past medications/side effectsFlecainide....didn't like it...didn't keep episode away. Same with Sotolol. Toprol didn't take it away. I think Rhythmol worked well for a time. Inderal never worked at all. In the hospital, IV Cardezem worked well but it dropped my blood pressure way low. Also had IV magnesium.S
History of surgeryScoliosis in 65...harrington rod procedure. Wonder if spine and vegas nerve are doing this now. Why now and never before?
Post procedure...I understand I was a challenge due to my curved spine and metal rods. They had to go more from the upper chest than groin to be able to thread the catheters correctly and get to the angle they needed.
Future plansTo be afib free after the procedure I just had!
Personal commentsI've had afib for two years.....now post PVI procedure...I hope to be afib free. I have a lot of past experience with this and hope to talk to those who have had success from the procedure....or not so good success. Would like to know if what I'm feeling is to be expected....
Best wishes to all...please write.
