Name | David |
---|
Location | Liverpool, UK |
---|
Age | 47 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Vagally mediated Lone AF |
---|
Years with condition | 2 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | varies - has been lessening- approx. every 4 months |
---|
Duration of episodes | 3-12 hours |
---|
General health | good, light drinker, non-smoker ; have a hiatus hernia; had cardiac catheter and no heart disease found - former marathoner |
---|
Current state | keeping acid reflux at bay through lansaprazole |
---|
Triggers | over-eating; cold liquids on empty stomach; build-up of acid; constipation; trapped gas
(I've kept a log and I have not had any episodes outside these triggers |
---|
Preventions | None really, though once stopped through cold water on face; warning signs are PACs. Once it has kicked in, sleep has helped. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Flecainide (Tambocor); Lansaprazole; 81mg Asprin.
Occasional constipation |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Atenolol and Sotalol made me v. tired and had no effect on episodes |
---|
History of surgery | Vasectomy |
---|
Future plans | Keep the gastric problems at bay and then the triggers will disappear!
Keep reading message boards from fellow sufferers
Keep a log of ALL episodes or pre-episodes!
Will consider removal of mercury in fillings, if sufficent evidence emerges. Don't expect it to become chronic. |

Personal comments | Cardiologists don't seem to differentiate between mediations of AF, nor accept particular triggers - would prefer 'idiopathic' (means less work for them).
Sufferes themselves are the greatest resource for researching this condition. Despite having had many episodes, and despite knowing that it's unlikely to be life-threatening, I STILL find episodes exhausting, frightening and distressing! |
