Past medications/side effectsatenolol 100mg daily changed to sotalol 10.8.05
usual side effects. lethargy, ankle oedema, changes in eyesight blurred vision.
History of surgeryno history of surgery, have had one cardioversion, in nsr for three days then reverted back into persistant af.
Future plansMarch 2005 Awaiting angiography. and possible second cardioversion.
27.5.05 angiogram done, results normal, no atheroma, heart normal size.
Electro Cardioversion with amiodarone medication was to be next step. However thyroid function test was borderline, my cardiologist did not want to use amiodarone, as this will further effect my thyroid. He felt that he had reached the limits of his treatments. As all tests to-date have been normal I have been referred to Freeman hospital, which is a specialist heart centre, and an electrophysiologist for further treatment.
10.8.05 new cardiologist has found my latest echo shows heart normal but evidence of pulmonary hypertension, still waiting to have the cause diagnosed.
Update 27.3.06. still on same medications. pulmonary hypertension investigated, most likely due to back pressure from AF. new diagnosis of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. Next review with consultant, 26.5.06.
27.5.06 Afib occuring more frequently over past weeks. Saw consultant today meds changed from Sotalol to Flecainide 50mg bd.
Personal comments I feel that proceedures and treatments are too few and far between to have any impact on af, that this condition is stressful enough without all the waiting, don`t know if this is due to N.H.S. limitations or hospital proceedure.
27.3.06. update, I feel that the medication side effects are part of the problem. Still hoping for a cure that would end or reduce the need for the meds.
