TriggersThey seem to happen whenever I relax. I can't sit down or lay down for more than a minute or two and they begin. Sometimes they even happen while I'm walking, exercising, etc. This makes it hard to sleep, I'm awake on my third day straight right now.
PreventionsNothing prevents them, I've tried everything I could find on the Internet.
Current medications/side effectsTenormin, 50 mg a day. I started out with 25 mg. a day, but they made the palps no better, actually got worse. Doctor said "Double the meds." Palpitations seem to be actually more frequent and severe with this treatment than without, so I am weaning myself off of them. My doctor tells me it's a problem I'm going to probably have to "live with." He hasn't actually seen me in person for this, it's all been diagnosed over the phone and with a take home heart monitor. I hate HMOs. Also, an aspirin a day.
Past medications/side effectsNone.
History of surgeryNone.
Future plansI plan to get off Tenormin / atenolol, have been weaning myself down for a week now since it does me no good anyway. Plan to continue to take an aspirin a day, and pray a lot.
Personal commentsSudden death from heart attacks runs in the female side of my family. My cousin died at 42 while in a fight with her husband and daughter. My aunt died at 48 of a heart attack. My mom is on heart meds. But get this: my TWIN sister has no symptoms.
