Age60
Diagnosed conditionAtrial Fibrillation/AFlutter
Years with condition1 year
Frequency of episodesNow about every 3 weeks
Duration of episodes4 to 6 hours
Event preceding first AFNone I can recall
General healthVery healthy, non smoker/non drinker, I work out and eat very healthy foods, have taken no medications prior to this condition, except for Prempro and after the controvery I threw those out. I am a believer in vitamins and have taken them for years.
Current stateI have eliminated caffein, dairy, sugar from my diet since my last 'episode' a week ago and am hopeful there will be a change. I am also makiing myself get more rest throughout the day and I don't eat later than 7 pm. I am hopeful this will possibly go
TriggersI believe caffein, stress and being overly tired. I wish I knew, but am trying to find out.
PreventionsEliminate caffein, dairy, sugar, stress, exhaustion from my life.
Current medications/side effectsMetopropol and coumadin. I haven't really noticed a difference except that I may be more tired and my heart seems to beat 'softer', than when I was not on medication
Past medications/side effectsPrempro. I t possibly contributed to a DVT I had post surgery on my knee.
History of surgery2 biopsies for breast cancer (both benign)
Orthascopic knee surgery
Future plansContinue to try to find the reason I am having this and to live my life as before.
Personal commentsI realize this is not life threatening except for stroke, and I am grateful for that. I know the anxiety which happens during these 'episodes', and mine last only 4 to 6 hours. Some people are experiencing so much worse than I and my heart goes out to them. I know the biotech companies are doing everything possible to come up with a cure and I am hopeful this will happen within the next few years. Until then I will continue to try on my own to find my own cure.
