Age | 66 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Atrial Fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 1 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 2 to 3 per week |
---|
Duration of episodes | 1 hr to 8 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | Son died just prior to first episode. |
---|
General health | Quit smoking June 2000... |
---|
Current state | I would say I have gone from rare episodes to chronic in less than one year. |
---|
Triggers | Excess sugar for sure, like a handful of jelly beans. Sleeping on left side. Over tired or stress. |
---|
Preventions | I haven't found any preventions yet, try to relax. I am not a relaxing type person. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Currently on 160 mg Sotalol HCL twice daily. Coumadin 2 mg and 3 mg alternating. I have constant breakthroughs on the sotalol, dizziness, chest pain, short of breath. Have a first appointment with Electrophylogist on October 28, 2003. Hope to get off Sotalol. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Started on Cardizem, I was only on it about 10 days and had an attack while driving to work, called 911 on my cell phone..I was taken by ambulance to ER, and stayed in the hospital 6 days. They tried different doses of Cardizem and was actually doing quit well on it, but after 2 months the cardiologist wanted to try Sotolol. I feel I have gone down hill from there. I was hospitilized for 3 days and changed over to Sotolol, and had an a fib attack one week later. |
---|
History of surgery | Complete hysterectomy 1986.
Laproscopic gall bladder surgery 1991.
Retinal re-attachment 2000. |
---|
Future plans | I am most anxious to see what recommendations the EP will have. I am not adverse to having an ablation if the odds are good it will cure it. I have had echocardiogram, EKG's by the dozen, stress test. Was told the heart muscle was in good shape. |
---|
Personal comments | I have a real problem, in that the doctors do not explain anymore than they absolutely have to. When i was diagnosed with Atrial Fib, I was basically told it was not life threatening. But when you are about to pass out and your heart rate is 190 to 210 bpm, tell me then it is not life threatening. |
