LocationSt. Louis, Missouri, USA
Age45
Diagnosed conditionparoxsymal a-fib
Years with condition16
Frequency of episodesnow, approximately once per month
Duration of episodes18-20 hours
Event preceding first AFholiday heart, excess alcohol
General healthdo not smoke or drink, somewhat overweight
Current stateoccasional episodes
Triggersalcohol, flying - altitude - hypoxia, large meal late, onset hours after exercise. My episoldes always happen at night, typically shortly after I have fallen asleep. Lying on my back or left side seems to trigger it.
Preventionsrunning up stairs or uphill briefly when I feel the precursor ectopic heart beats.
Current medications/side effectsAttenolol, feel tired on occasion. Aspirin daily.
Past medications/side effectsI have had in the past Digoxin, verapamil, propanonal.
History of surgerynone
Future plansI would like to try catheter ablation, either RF or newer cryogenic when enough data is available to evaluate. I may try to get my cardiologist to cut back on my beta blocker as I am reading that beta blockers might be contraindicated in vagal induced a-fib.
Personal commentsI am pleased to know this web site exists. It gives me some comfort in knowing others have this same problem. I would love to know more about ablation.
