TriggersAs I reflect back, I was having stress at work and home with trying to get everything done, pigged out on chocolate (caffine) and diet Lipton ice tea (5 bottles a day). I believe it caught up with me.
A doctor I met in emergency (India) when I asked if heat and cold had anything to do with it, said yes. They use to put ice around the patients head to get them to go back to sinus rhythm. My husband had an attack at 12 noon and I gave him ice water and by the time we got to emergency, he was back to normal.
PreventionsElectro Physiology Physician. In the Philadelphia area, it is Frank Marchlinski. The process is a cure. Read: http://www.healthfinder.gov/news/newsstory.asp?docID=506427 just do a search for his name on www.google.com but there is a year wait list.
Current medications/side effectsI was taken off the cardizine in December and was told by the cardiologist that when I came back he would take me off the rhythmol. When I went back, he told me the heart monitor proved I had a heart skip, and said I could stay on the R or go off of it. My decision since there was no way to tell if it would happen again. He seeme to think it was one time. However, another doctor said I should have had a stress test to make sure my arteries were not blocked before staying on just the Rhythmol. He immediately reduced it to 1/2 a tablet 3 times a day and I felt better.
I had shortness of breath, some quivering in the chest area.
The new doctor said I could have had a heart attack if I had been blocked. Beware....This drug is not to be given alone nor before a stress test. I did not have to go on coumadin like my husband.
Past medications/side effectsnone
History of surgeryTonsils, foot surgery and cyst from neck.
Personal commentsI did not feel well, like humid in the bedroom when I woke up, but no heart attack symptoms. Just overall feeling of not being well. Did not go to work and called husband at noon to take me to the doctors. Just a feeling I should go. EKG had no P wave, went to emergency (4 PM) and up to ICU. Before they took me up at 8 PM I was back to normal sinus rhythm. My husband has afib for past 2 years so I know what it is, but had none of his symptoms nor his ailments. He is asthmatic, diabetic and has sleep apnea. I was released the next day on cardizine and rhythmol. Taken of R in Dec and changed cardiologist last month (see above).
