Event preceding first AFhiatal hernia/ headaches/ rotator cups/ cortisone shots
General healthnon-smoker, was occasional drinker, ate pretty good
Current statemore episodes than ever
Triggerslarge meals, resting, believe dysopyramide is making it worse and went off of beta-blocker, spicy foods, or anything that causes gastral upset
PreventionsUnknown, as of yet, but I'm turning my diet around and taking multi-vit., magnesium, high doses of vit. c, l-lysine, l-proline, l-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, co q10, fish oil, E, green drinks and acidophilus/probiotics.
Current medications/side effectsdysopyramide quit toprol (beta blocker)
aspirin

do not like any of the drugs, as they make me feel foggy in my thinking, depressed, fatigued.
Past medications/side effectsrhythmol and labetalol not good for vagals and felt awful
flecainide for a year and it worked well, but lost its effects.
History of surgeryopen heart for atrial septal defect at age 20
rotator cups in shoulders no surgery, just cortisone
hiatal hernia endoscopy
2 ablations for flutter, then went into AF and now both
Future plansDiet changes that will hopefully work, but if they don't I will try another ablation or the maze, only at the Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Natale. I am going to wait for approx. 6 months before I consider and give dietary changes a chance. I will get off of all meds. and do on demand if necessary until my body can heal itself, as well.
Personal commentsIn all my research, the most enlightning was a more newfound knowledge for Vit. C. www.paulingtherapy.com and magnesium. It is my present opinion, and after reading everyone's posts here, that there is a direct correlation with the need for vit. c. This nutrient is very important for the making of collagen which keeps our body's elasticity working. The heart and vessels leading to the heart needs this mostly, but so do our rotator cup, knees, hips, backs, skin, etc... There are allergy and asthma sufferers here that need more C & Mg., esp. C. Did you know that the plaque that forms on the artery walls is not the problem, but the body trying to fix a crack in the vessel from lack of collagen to keep the vessel supple. Maybe that is the problem with the heart. The elasticity is wearing out and the nerves are following a corrosive path. Maybe we are just experiencing AF as a debillitating sympton of a worsening condition and we are fortunate enough to have the foresight to correct the problem. It certainly is not an overnight fix, as we wish it would be, but it was not overnight that we developed this condition. Remember, as well, that all nutrients work synergistically, and the multi-vit. is just as important, because we need extra B vit. as well. Just my hypothesis and I will let you know my outcome. I am presently taking 3000mg of C, working up to 10,000 per day, along with all the above mentioned nutrients.
