| Past medications/side effects | Took 120 mg of verapamil daily for two years and on my own went on a as needed basis. Afib sessions have been shorter and milder since going on a as need basis with verapamil.
Blood pressure and pulse when not in afib is normal and the verapamil lowered my BP and pulse to where I felt poorly. |

| Future plans | Will be scheduling surgery in month of October 2002 for recently diagnosed hyperthyroidism. I have multiple nodules that precludes any other treatment than surgery. I am a certified scuba diver and pretty fair golfer. This afib and thyroid condition is interferring with my recreational activities and I am looking forward to getting back to those activities. |

| Personal comments | The first two years I had two to four afib attacks per year. In the third year I had no afib. About the time I started having symptoms of hyperthyroidism my afib sessions came on every two weeks. I am hoping that having the thyroidectomy will eliminate or at least reduce the afib episodes.My specific symptoms are insomnia,fatigue,neck soreness, pains in rt. and left triceps, weakness in upper torso and legs, tremors in both hands and atrial fib. These are classic symptoms for my particular thyroid condition. |
