barhelpup

NameMike
LocationSouthern Maryland
Age26
Diagnosed conditionLone AF
Years with condition1/2
Frequency of episodes3-4 times a week
Duration of episodes2-6 hours
Event preceding first AFNone
General healthDrink on the weekends
Current stateOn my third medication
TriggersTaking deep breaths, laying down, eating too much...pretty much anything involving my diaphragm muscle.
PreventionsSometimes flexing my stomach muscles seems to make it go away, but that might just be coincidence because other times I just look like a fool flexing his stomach muscles.
Current medications/side effectsVerapamil - Keeps my heart rate down when I have an episode
Past medications/side effectsAtenolol - It made my AF episodes go from 2-3 times a week to 5 or 6 times a day. It also made me sleep about 12 hours a day...no life whatsoever.

Diltiazem - Made me dizzy and didn't really do anything for me
History of surgeryMy cardiologist told me that I should get an ablation...however he is a military doctor and there is no way I would let a military doctor do that to me...

I'll wait until I get out of the military (in a year or so) and see a civilian doctor.
Future plansGet out of the military so I can actually be seen by real doctors that know what the hell is going on.
Personal commentsJust glad to know there's a whole bunch of people who have been there and done that when it comes to different treatments.
