Name | Mike |
---|
Location | Southern Maryland |
---|
Age | 26 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Lone AF |
---|
Years with condition | 1/2 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 3-4 times a week |
---|
Duration of episodes | 2-6 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | None |
---|
General health | Drink on the weekends |
---|
Current state | On my third medication |
---|
Triggers | Taking deep breaths, laying down, eating too much...pretty much anything involving my diaphragm muscle. |
---|
Preventions | Sometimes flexing my stomach muscles seems to make it go away, but that might just be coincidence because other times I just look like a fool flexing his stomach muscles. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Verapamil - Keeps my heart rate down when I have an episode |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Atenolol - It made my AF episodes go from 2-3 times a week to 5 or 6 times a day. It also made me sleep about 12 hours a day...no life whatsoever.
Diltiazem - Made me dizzy and didn't really do anything for me |
---|
History of surgery | My cardiologist told me that I should get an ablation...however he is a military doctor and there is no way I would let a military doctor do that to me...
I'll wait until I get out of the military (in a year or so) and see a civilian doctor. |
---|
Future plans | Get out of the military so I can actually be seen by real doctors that know what the hell is going on. |
---|
Personal comments | Just glad to know there's a whole bunch of people who have been there and done that when it comes to different treatments. |
