Name | Trevor |
---|
Location | Perth Australia |
---|
Age | 55 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Atrial flutter/fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 3 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | Currently every other day |
---|
Duration of episodes | 6 to 8 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | None that I can tell |
---|
General health | Good.Non smoker,light drinker,moderate exerciser |
---|
Current state | Now in (I believe)neurogenic AF |
---|
Triggers | Currently happens at night or when resting after a meal.
Before when in flutter,I have no idea what triggered it as it could occur at any time.
I have suffered from mild hiatus hernia, and have chest pain from I think a worsening scoliosis of the spine.I stoop which tends to give me pain in the ribs. |
---|
Preventions | Have tried being off alcohol completely. It seemed to work for a short while. Now no correlation between a drink and AF episodes. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | None.Warforin only at the moment until my cardiologist comes up with something else. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Was prescribed low dose rates of flecainide which had no effect.Stonger dose made me feel ill such that I was off work for two weeks.
My GP tried beta blockers which I threw in the bin after one day!My blood pressure is "perfect" so beta blockers had a negative effect to say the least.
Have also had digoxin but off that now. |
---|
History of surgery | Have been cardioverted. This worked for a year.
Have also had ultra sound of the heart which indicated a leaking mitral valve although not serious.
My arteries are fine having had an angiogram.
Also have had the snake down the throat to see if the hiatus hernia has worsened.(It hasn't)
Finally have had cardial ablation which may have cured the flutter but now in AF |
---|
Future plans | I am going to still push my cardiologist to examine the role of my chest pains and possible influence of these pains on the vegus nerve.
As medication doesn't work, could be a pace maker for me. |
---|
Personal comments | This condition is a bugger and is making me severely depressed especially as otherwise I am healthy.I can't do the things I want to do.
Good luck to all my fellow sufferers! |
