AFibbers Database: John91326

barhelpup

NameJohn91326
LocationPorter Ranch, Ca
Age55
Diagnosed conditionA-Fib
Years with conditionProbably a good 10 - 12 years although only diagonosed in 8-2001.
Frequency of episodesEvery now and then
Duration of episodesUntil I calm down usually
Event preceding first AFBlood is too thick. Had a Pulmonary Embolism years ago which may have triggered this AF problem.
General healthNo smoke. Very light drinker. 6 foot, 210, good health otherwise. I walk, play golf, but nothing real strenuous.
Current stateScared! Have an occasional thud in chest area when overly annoyed, agitated, stressed, excited, or exercising. Always thought it was an esophagaus type problem because a thud feeling occurs somewhat higher than the heart level.
TriggersStress. Arguments. Agitation.
PreventionsCalming down. Eating smaller meals. Eating slowly. Taking short rests and cat naps. Maybe it is just me, but being able to have good bowel movements seems to alleviate this sense of pressue and thudding as well.
Current medications/side effectsCoumadin to maintain an INR between 2 and 3. Lanoxin to slow heart rate. No side effects per se.
History of surgeryNone.
Future plansNot sure what to do. It seems people live with this stuff, given some of the recent celebrities listed. Coumadin gives me a lot of piece of mind. Since I have to take Coumadin for the rest of my life anyway (for a thick blood disorder called Protein S and Protein C Deficiency), this might be a case of killing two birds with one stone and just be thankful there is an effective way to treat both problems.
Personal commentsI love the board and talking to people who live this life as people with Afib. So refreshing to get the real side of this -- much different from the doctor point of view.
