General healthex smoker, moderate drinker, overweight
Current stateliving with it
TriggersAlcohol consumption in excess of 6 units makes afib uncomfortable next day.

Exercise of any sort increases discomfort

Stress and excitement increase discomfort
PreventionsAvoid known triggers to minimise discomfort. Atenolol (recently prescribed) helps with stress/excitement related discomfort. For most of the time I'm now not aware of the condition. But I do still get breathless on exercise and this can lead to angina. GTN helps with this.
Current medications/side effectsWarfarin
Digoxin
Atorvastatin
atenolol

Side effects indeterminate - not being sufficiently troublesome to warrant investigation. Some nagging doubts about statins and memory impairement.
Past medications/side effectsAmioderone - sensitivity to sunlight
Sotalol - fatigue, but not serious
History of surgeryCoronary Angioplasty including placement of stent January 1998
Future plansTo try to find a means of getting off of warfarin and digoxin. Update: looks like it will be digoxin forever - and warfarin as well, unless the powers that be can sort out the Zantec (?) side effects.
Personal commentsHaving trouble getting used to the idea that I must, from now on, restrict my activities and enjoyment to the point where I cannot join in with others. this was particularly evident this year (2005) when I accompanied my wife and some good friends on a skiing trip but I couldn't join in, in case of serious internal injury and subsequent uncontrolled bleeds (Warfarin). Also getting mightily fed up with having to watch what I eat, drink, etc because of effects on warfarin dosage, weight, etc., etc. In short, after several years of chronic AF and all that goes with it, the enthusiasm to maintain the "sensible" regime dwindles somewhat. Hmm!
