Triggers	Late nights, large meals, tight waistbands!, excitement (usually not stress) Got a lot worse when I developed thyrotoxicosis from taking Amiodarone
Preventions	I've never found anything
Current medications/side effects	Cartia (aspirin 100mg/day)
Past medications/side effects	Amiodarone - did a pretty good job until it caused thyrotoxicosis Digoxin - very low pulse rate (mid thirties) and nausea Sotalol - 2nd period on this drug, too many side-effects to list but mainly digestive problems and light-headedness Zantac - for hiatel hernia. Really made me feel lousy Isoptin SR (Verapamil) (120mg/day)- seemed good at first but when the AF really kicked in, it was useless Flecainide - re-tried it after several years - ok for a couple of days, then it dropped my pulse rate so low I couldn't walk. Rythmodan + sotalol - only a slight help

Personal comments	I was fiited with a dual-chamber pacemaker in August 2001 after the AF became too unstable. Nearly 3 years on, the pacemaker has improved my life immeasurably BUT I have only in the last few months started to feel really WELL again after suffering the effects of long-term medication (in particular Amiodarone). BE VERY CAREFUL WITH AMIODARONE. PREVIOUS HISTORY - For years I have not been able to tolerate vitamin c or citrus juices early in the morning and have had problems with my disgestive system - all the doctors I have seen, have said there is no connection with AF - I'm convinced there is and it's interesting how many other people on this database have similar views. I saw a doctor in Aug 2001 who diagnosed me as insulin resistant and thought he could help the AF through diet, as he had other patients. Unfortunately, my AF became too unstable (ie impossible to live with) so I was not able to conclude his program.
