NameJoan
LocationUnited States
Age67
Diagnosed conditionAtrial Fibrillations & Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis
Years with condition20
Frequency of episodesgetting worse the older I get......Last two years about 12 times
Duration of episodes1-5 days. Needing zapping (cardioversion)-electric shock
Event preceding first AFNONE
General healthThe heart problem is my big problem. Never know WHEN!!!
Current statestill hoping one day to be cured. Live with it daily!
TriggersI do not smoke or drink, I do not have caffeine, I do not do anything at all to make these episodes come on. Most of the time it is at night. I am reading in bed, or watching TV or listening to music. I know the minute it starts and feel every single beat from my heart. It does a job on my confidence and I feel as though a hammer were over my head waiting to fall.
PreventionsI am on all sorts of medication and nothing helps. I have been ablated, cardioverted and waiting for something new TO CURE ME.
Current medications/side effectsateninol, calan sr,coumadin, corderone. I am always tired and have very little strength especially in the afternoon and at night..........
Past medications/side effectsWho remembers. Nothing has ever done it for more than a few years and the older I get the worse and more stubborn it gets.
History of surgery2 ablations, 6 cardioversions.....
Future plansTry to go on with my life and not let this make me depressed but I am afraid to go away travelling or too far from my doctors and or hospital.......
Personal commentsThis is a terrible thing to live with and I do not think that the medical profession is doing enough for all the millioins of people that have it, some worse than others. HELP!!!!!!
