Duration of episodesusually less than 24 hrs.
Event preceding first AFNone. could have been major partying that night.
General healthFairly good inspite of obesity, well controlled diabetes,
Current statelosing weight ,down to one diabetes med, last attack 10/06. Daily ectopic beats though.
TriggersLying down.(used to be just left side but now any position).
So far, all events happened while lying down except one during exercise. I have daily ectopic beats provoked by excercise going up and conming down.Bending over.Full stomach. Swallowing cold liquid.Pressure on my midback between spine and left shoulder blade. A pillow could do it. Many episodes start with flutter and then break down to fib.I not only feel the beats when I have an attack but I feel the fluttering atria in my throat.
Spend a lot of time worrying. The rhythm triggers a trauma response.
Preventions??? I spend my life adjusting my position, not getting full especially at night. Not eating after 5 or 6PM. Not bending over for too long. Not leaning against the back of the couch or chair. Drinking slowly. Who knows if that helps.
Current medications/side effectsDigoxin. Coumadin in anticipation of Ablation March 19, 2007.
Past medications/side effectsAtenol, made palpitations worse-depression, fatigue, Lopressor made palpitations worse-depression, fatigue & A-fib broke through, Sectrol made palpitations worse, Verapamil made palpitations worse, Flecainide made palpitations worse,Cardizem, A-fib broke through.Cardiologist laughed at me about the meds making the palps worse. Wouldn't belive it, wanted to increase dose until Holter proved it. Changed cardiologist!
History of surgeryNone.
Future plansScheduled for Pulmonary vein ablation at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio March 19.Could give me Left A-flutter or other complications but I'm praying not.
Personal commentsI'm sure I sound whiny to you folks out there that have far more trouble. To you I apologize and admire your stamina. I don't seem to be able to get my reponse to the attacks or the fear of them under control. It just feels so awful in my chest when it happens.
