NameDick S
LocationTitusville FL USA
Age55
Diagnosed conditionatrial fibrillation and atrial flutter
Years with condition7
Frequency of episodes3 to 4 times daily for 1.5 weeks then 0 per day for one week
Duration of episodesseveral hours of palpations. Very rapid about 2 to 4 hours
Event preceding first AFJust sitting there. Next one I had swum for 1.5 hrs, then done yard work
General healthType 2 diabetic, insulin needed. High blood pressure
Current stateDoctors didn't do much. Got worse this fall. Went to new cardiologist who prescribed tambocor/flecainide. AF became atrial flutter. Referred to cardiac electrophysiologist. Just had a catheter ablation on Feb 20, 2001, Flutter stopped, AF flec. control
TriggersExercise, eating, prone position especially on stomach, ice water,
PreventionsNone until started flecainide and, now, catheter ablation to stop atrial flutter
Current medications/side effectsFlecainide (Tambocor). Side effect - blurred peripheral vision starting 1 hour after taking and lasting for 2 or more hours
Past medications/side effectsHeart rate control medications - lanoxin, cardizem
History of surgeryCatheter ablation (EPS - electrophysiology study) by a pretty neat heart imaging device by ... damn I can't remember. Get back to you on this.
Future plansWait and hope AF and atrial flutter were related. Wait to see if catheter ablation on atrial flutter controls the problem. Lower dosage of tambocor to see if AF returns, then increase dose until controlled. Get off of coumadin/warfarin if AF and atrial flutter stay in control?
Try other AF controlling drugs if/when tambocor stops working.
Personal commentsI'm typed out.
