TriggersStress or emotional states such as anger, perhaps alcohol, large meals.
PreventionsRelaxation breathing exercise, cold showers, occasionally carotid massage.
Current medications/side effectsDofetilide (Tikosyn) and Toprol XL: no certainty of side effects, though perhaps from the Toprol waves of
faintness/nausea and tendency to depression.
Coumadin: increased vulnerability to skin bruises.
Past medications/side effectsAtenolol: occasional faint spells.
Lanoxin, Disopyramide, Betapace, Rythmol: no side effects noticed.
Tambocor: slight discomfort when rolling eyes upward or to side.
History of surgeryTonsillectomy at about age 4.
Radical prostatectomy, 1996.
Flutter ablation, 1997.
Future plansProbably will request a dosage increase in dofetilide, possibly decrease in Toprol. If AF not controlled, will try
alternative approaches, such as Willa's magnet bed, biofeedback, hypnotism, mercury removal, mineral
supplements, thyroid therapy.
Personal commentsI very much appreciate having this support group, which together with other Internet resources give me hope that
some day I can find a permanent cure for AF.
